When do babies outgrow this?

When do babies outgrow this?

One minute, you’re lovingly setting up the bedside crib. Six months later, you’re wondering where on earth to store it.

Babies grow fast - and so does the pile of things they no longer need.

We created this simple timeline as a helpful rule of thumb for when little ones typically outgrow everyday baby essentials. From swaddles and bassinets in those hazy newborn weeks, to balance bikes and travel cots as toddlerhood takes off, it’s amazing how quickly each stage comes and goes.

Of course, every baby is different. Some outgrow things sooner, others hold onto favourites a little longer. But having a rough idea of when items tend to be outgrown can help you:

  • Plan ahead for what’s next
  • Avoid overbuying
  • Free up space at home
  • Rehome items while they’re still in great condition

The Early Months (0–6 Months)

Swaddles, moses baskets and bassinets are often the first to be packed away — sometimes by 3–6 months. Bedside cribs, pregnancy pillows, bottle sterilisers and newborn carriers usually follow not long after.

It’s a short season but a beautiful one. And then suddenly, it’s over.

The First Year (6–12 Months)

Bouncers, play gyms and baby baths are often outgrown by around 6–12 months as babies start sitting, crawling and pulling themselves up. That activity centre that once bought you ten precious minutes? It won’t be needed anymore.

Toddler Territory (12–36 Months)

By 18 months, many little ones are ready to move on from smaller carriers and early activity toys. By 24 months, cribs, playpens, and balance bikes are outgrown. And by around 36 months, items such as high chairs, pushchairs, travel cots, and potty-training gear may no longer be part of everyday life.

It’s a steady rhythm of outgrowing and growing into.

At Rekiddle, we believe baby items deserve more than a single season. When your child is ready to move on, another family could be just about to begin.
